Apologies to those few, those happy few, JT readers loyally expecting an update over the last week or so.

As is only too clear, the site wasn’t updated and this omission is all down to my SO and your webmistress. First up, I foolishly bought her an eye-wateringly expensive digital camera thing for her xxxxxieth birthday (sorry, there must be a bug in this word processor I keep writing the SO’s age down and it keeps coming up as xxxxxxx. Funny that.)

The subsequent plittering aboot with same kept her busy all last weekend. And second up, instead of committing my comedic pearls to html mid-week, she was away on business in Foreign. Anyway, we’re all back now.

You’ll remember dear reader, that half way funny gag I wrote a few weeks back on the PF (that’s like a DA to our US pals) giving up the law to go on the road with his band "December"?

Well, a few days after the gag appeared, I got an email with the headline as the subject line.

I always slightly worry about doing these legally related gags in case some gimlet-eyed lawyer spots an opportunity to do me for libel - hence my apprehension at seeing this particular bit of mail come up. But thank fuck, it was only the said ex-PF saying he enjoyed the gag and would I review the band’s CD. Ah. Now this request presented me with a bit of a dilemma on two fronts.

The long-term reader of the JT knows full well that I consider "For No One" the best pop song that will ever be written and that all subsequent song writing is therefore historically redundant and therefore, your honour, there’s no point me reviewing anything.

And also there’s the small point that we just don’t do reviews here at JT mansions apart from the odd bit of telly related stuff. I did sort of half-heartedly offer my son’s services as a reviewer but since his consumption of pop seems to confined to beat combos entirely composed of sullen young men thrashing innocent Telecasters to death while screaming, I thought it unlikely that he’d give "December" a fair hearing.

So, what to do? What to do?

In searching around for a workable compromise I looked for inspiration among current figures of world renown. And then it came to me: of course, Tony and George, what better exemplars of dignified rectitude? So suitably inspired by their example, I know I’m doing the right thing: I’m taking the coward’s way out.

That’s why at the end of this crawling apologia you’ll find a link to the "December" site where as far as I know you can download their tunes. Let me know if you like their stuff and we might make them official JT band or something.

If, on the other hand, you reckon their stuff’s a load of shite, then keep shtum. Remember, their lead singer’s still a lawyer…
