Old Firm unites in condemning sectarianism.
As N.I. and Celtic’s Neil Lennon decided this week that, on balance, he’d rather not be shot or blown up, football’s senior service this side of the not-at- all irradiated Irish Sea united in calling for an end to sectarianism.

At separate press conferences, senior club spokesangels for the Old Firm issued identical statements: "We at Rangers/Celtic Football Club totally condemn sectarian bigotry and call on that other lot to end it immediately."

The bold initiative came in the week when a lone nutter ‘phoned to say that Neil Lennon would be killed if he captained Northern Ireland against Cyprus.

Loyalist paramilitary sources told the JT: "This is a lone nutter, his insanity is not officially sanctioned by Loyalists and is therefore wrong."

Patrick O’Pious, long term ‘tic fan expressed disappointment that religious bigotry had again raised its ugly head, "I think it's terrible at a time of increasing ecumenical activity within the Christian Churches that the spectre of bigoted division be raised again. But there you go, that’s they Orange bastards for you."

Meanwhile, this week’s by a mile, out of sight, no contest, winner of the JT’s "You Couldn’t Fuckin’ Make It Up" award goes to Donald Finlay QC writing in "The Guardian" who tells of having to resign his post at Rangers after "being secretly filmed singing football songs…(the experience) made me acutely aware that whatever you may mean or feel or think, you cannot ignore how other people may interpret what you have done."*

Just how many ways exactly there are to interpret the sentiment embodied in the line "up to our knees in Fenian blood" is not recorded.

Inside: Which brings to mind Mahatma Gandhi’s response when asked about Western Civilisation: "It would be a good idea" the bare-footed minx replied.
