-- Experts in the field of psychology today confirmed the existence of a previously
undiscovered form of mental illness.
"Manic optimism", (or, to give it its Latin name, "Keeganitis") is a
virulent form of delusion that has long been expected to exist but had previously only
been hinted at by the behaviour of small groups of English football journalists.
"We finally isolated the disease in the lab last night from a sample we took from a
small, mullet-headed Englishman who was found wandering the streets in a
severly agitated state," says Prof Rjykian Huliminstraas, head of the Department of
Psychology at the University of Amsterdam. |
"The patient was obviously
delusional, repeating 'England can win Euro 2000' over and over again." Prof Huliminstraas added: "It took us a while until we could
treat this unfortunate man. I mean, we had to stop laughing first."
Experts predict an increasingly widespread epidemic of the condition centering on the
small Belgian town of Charleroi towards Saturday, but a sudden drop off of cases
immediately after 10pm, local time.
