| In an act of unparalleled
generosity the Duke of Buccleuch has offered to supply the wood necessary to build the
reception desk for the Scottish Parliament building. The proposal would slash the
cost of what amounts to a big table with a phone on it by £7K. Reducing the cost from a staggering £88k of other
people’s money to a perfectly acceptable £81K it is thought will quell unease among
people who originally thought they’d misread the original estimate or assumed that
April Ist had come early.
We contacted the Duke to thank him for his
generosity but unfortunately we couldn’t understand a word he said. |
It is not the first time
that the normally reclusive Duke has hit the headlines. Back in the early 1970s, the Duke was a leading light in the
UK’s nascent glam rock scene, touring constantly with his band "Dukey Duke and
the Fox Hunters". Such was his abiding influence, that the band T-Rex dedicated one
of their biggest hits to the ennobled one . Who can forget that classic opening line that
went: "Duke of Buccleuch is it You?" *
Inspired by the Duke’s kindness, the editor of
the JT is to contact the Welsh designer of the desk to offer to supply sheets of MDF
he’s got lying about in the garage on the understanding that the Welsh git stops
taking the piss. |
