| Following snaggle-toothed Frank
Macavennie's acquittal on drug conspiracy charges in Newcastle, BBC Scotland announced
that the verdict had forced them to abandon plans for a major spin off from their single
comedy hit, Only an Excuse. The proposed series, working title, "Frankie goes to
Barlinnie", would have featured Jonathon Watson recycling old "Frankie Boy"
gags within the context of long term penal servitude. Viewers would have been treated to
the sight of "Frankie" enduring prison life while providing the excuse to
disinter ancient jokes about "hunners o' burdz" and laboured double entendre
references to "charlie". |
A spokesman for BBC Scotland told
the JT last night that the ex-footballer's acquittal had "fucked that idea up big
time. We thought we could get more mileage taking the piss out of a sad, drug dependent
bankrupt but, there you go, that's show business." With the sitcom scrapped, BBC
Scotland has no plans to come up with original material for the annual "Only"
show and instead will rely on their usual hundred strong writing team to come up with the
usual ten gags with punch lines that evoke a strong sensation of déjà vu.
