| The Bishop of Motherwell (there is one apparently) this week called
on The Church in Scotland to "stop cowering before the government". In a
wide-ranging speech that ranged widely over the rational-argument-free terrain that is
Catholic logic, the Bish, Joe Devine, attacked "creeping political correctness"
exemplified by "worrying examples of the law being used to intimidate and silence the
expression of Christian views."
Talking exclusively to The JT the concerned cleric said :"With political
correctness seeking to quash free speech, one has to delve deeply into the historical
record to find an analogy for the current tyranny. |
Not since the Inquisition, when an overweening power sought to
impose its world view on dissenting voices ...er, hang on, Ive just thought that one
through, forget I said anything..." Indeed.
But in its time of need The JT will not be found wanting in handing out unasked-for
advice to the Mother Church - much like the said church is prone to do from time to time.
Consider, brethren, the entirely laudable Christian concept of humility, encompassing as
it does the related concept of quiet reflection. |
To illustrate, lets imagine
there was a religious organisation that had turned a blind eye to the systemic abuse of
children over a long period, only to have this abuse exposed due to a growing climate of
political correctness - one where past victims felt their voices could and should be now
heard. Now, youd think, wouldnt you, that such exposure might prompt the
said organisation to show a little humility and embark on a period of quiet reflection?
Well, you might think that, but obviously youd be wrong.
So, by way of a late coda to the other weapons The Church used during the Pythonesque
Inquisition we can now add another: Attack is the best form of Defence. |
