Celtic inquiry to look for overly-complicated reason.
It's red necks all round at Parkheid this week following footage of a Donegal Hotel function where bhoys Messrs Pearson and Hartson are seen warbling "The Fields of Athenry" to an crowd accompaniment consisting mainly of the shouted letters "I", "R" and "A".

Apparently, (and I swear I’m not making this up) a spokestim for Celtic is speculating that videotape of the footage might have been edited by persons unknown to dub in the sectarian chorus.

Using that tone of offended innocence that the Old Firm partners use every time they get caught out, a Baird’s Bar regular told The JT:

"The simple explanation is that some pissed up Irish Celtic fans punctuated the players’ warblings with IRA chants. However, this simple explanation is not credible, resting as it does, on the totally unsustainable notion that a section of the club support are as mindlessly sectarian as the Forces of Darkness over at Ibrox.

Since that simple explanation does not accord with our carefully constructed image of put-upon saintliness there must be evil forces at work. In other words, it's The Huns."

Celtic FC has promised a full inquiry into the Donegal incident but it is unlikely that the resulting report will come up with anything quite as convoluted, entertaining and self-serving as the initial "explanation".

Don’t you guys dare change it, it's perfect.
