"The Sea Kingdoms" : new STV show to chronicle celtic history B.E.(before England).
In a uncharacteristic move - actually making programmes with relevant local content, STV next week launch a 10 part show on Celtic culture. "The Sea Kingdoms" traces the history of mainly coastal based cultures.

In part seen as a riposte to Simon Schama’s overly anglocentric take on the history of Britain, the new series will concentrate instead on the everyday life of peoples centuries before everything bad that happens could be conveniently blamed on England.

Professor Beaker of Edinburgh’s School of Why We’re Great and the English are Pure Pish Studies says the new show will reveal the day to day concerns of our Celtic forefathers:

"I think it's important that we reflect on a period of history before the English came along and gave us a unified locus to moan about."

The series will show how for generations before Jimmy Hill, celtic societies lacked useful hate figures, instead relying on internecine warfare, paddling about in boats and dabbling in human sacrifice to pass the time.

The new show is not without its critics however. Baird's Bar regulars in particular question how a history of The Celts can completely ignore the victory of The Lisbon Lions and pays scant regard to Henrik’s contribution to the Bhoys’ current UEFA cup run.

Inside: History of course repeats itself, first as tragedy and then as cheap gags at the expense of serious academic endeavour as the works cited below amply illustrate :
