Let joy be unconfined…
The Scottish nation rose as one this week, flags were unfurled, a national holiday was declared and joy was literally unconfined as news broke that the country’s lawyers were making even more money!

Yes, data this week revealed that the average solicitor’s take home pay went up last year by a wallet straining, inflation bursting (etc) 30%!

In welcoming the news, Scotland’s FM, Jack McConnell, told The JT : "This is great news for Scotland. It’s a tribute to the strength of the economy that a previously under-privileged sector of Scottish society is finally reaping the rewards of the longest sustained period of economic growth since the dawn of human history."

The heart warming news comes despite the fact that the Law Society have abolished the set fee structure previously governing how much solicitors can charge gullible dupes, er, sorry I meant that to read : "their clients."

A spokesbrief for The Society told the JT: "Previously, we justified the tariff as a way of protecting clients from the unscrupulous lawyer. But let’s face it, nobody really believed that load of old pish did they?"

The increase in income is likely to especially please one segment of the profession as an exclusive source now reveals : "The uplift in fee income means that lawyers like me will be able to really enjoy our spare time hobby - being MSPs."

(Not) Inside: Lawyer jokes. I do have one brilliant lawyer gag that unfortunately, due to the bad language, is not suitable for re-telling within the pages of this august journal, so email me if you want to hear it…
