Planned work on the Tay
Road Bridge over the next two years will not result in the bridge being closed - much to
the relief of motorists.Engineers for the project on the bridge, opened in 1966, were
quick to reassure anxious travellers that the Fife-bound escape route from The City Of
Despondency will still be available.
As a spokeshardhat told a frankly relieved JT: "On announcing the programme of
works we were inundated with calls from people worried that if they found themselves in
Dundee by mistake there would be no quick way to effect an escape. It's OK, you can still
get out quick."
Closure of the bridge wouldve left motorists with only limited options in
escaping the city before it got dark: either executing a 180-degree turn at that
mini-roundabout just beside Tescos or jumping aboard a flight from Dundee (ahem)
"Airport" while ground staff were still winding up the rubber bands on the
aircraft.
While the bridge remaining open does give motorists the chance to leg it, unfortunately
this does mean they end up in Fife - God help them.
